HydrOTEC Kick-off Meeting

The HydrOTEC project kick-off meeting was organized by the coordinating institution, the Cyprus University of Technology, at the university in Limassol on the 8th and 9th of February serving as a hub for collaboration, idea exchange, and strategic coordination. The meeting marks the start of a mission to advance green energy solutions, focusing on using OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) technology as well as Solar Energy towards green hydrogen production. The project consortium comprises two universities: Cyprus University of  Technology and International Hellenic University, along with two SMEs: Lumoscribe Ltd and Enerbasque, and one prominent industry player: Ayia Napa Marina. Representatives from each partner entity participated in the meeting, demonstrating a strong sense of teamwork and anticipation for the project’s forthcoming phases.

During the first day of the meeting, partners engaged in thought-provoking presentations, delving into each work package with depth and clarity. Topics spanned from project management to OTEC system analysis, computational model development, experimental testing, evaluation, marine engineering design tailored for real sea conditions and project’s dissemination. Spirited discussions blossomed as concerns about mechanisms, processes, and anticipated results were openly addressed. Partners enthusiastically shared innovative ideas, fostering a collaborative spirit aimed at overcoming obstacles and maximizing the project’s potential.

On the second day of the meeting, the focus shifted to the path ahead for HydrOTEC. Each participant analyzed the next steps, aligning them with the specific work packages they were responsible for. This targeted approach ensured that every aspect of the project received thorough consideration and planning. Participants engaged in strategic discussions, brainstorming innovative solutions, and setting clear objectives to propel the project forward. The synthesis of diverse perspectives and expertise during this initial kick-off meeting, have characterized the consortium’s concerted efforts to propel green energy innovation forward.
