Aims & Objectives

Setting Sail for Sustainable Solutions

HydrOTEC Objectives

Develop a computational model for a solar thermal energy-assisted OTEC system, determining its operational parameters, maximum electricity output, and clean water production rate.

Investigate technical options for integrating thermal solar energy into the OTEC system, exploring the use of solar collectors alongside existing technologies.

Research hydrogen production systems through computational analysis of electrolysis and propose solutions for hydrogen storage integration within the hybrid system.

Conduct environmental impact assessments of individual and integrated systems using Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) methodologies.

Conduct experimental trials to observe the performance of the proposed hybrid system, including small-scale OTEC system testing, solar collector system setup, and assessment of green hydrogen production.

Evaluate the performance of the OTEC system and the hybrid system for green hydrogen production based on small-scale experimental results.

Identify opportunities for upscaling the solution to industrial/commercial scale, including validation of models against physical tests, evaluation of system performance and structural integrity, and assessment of techno-economic feasibility and societal acceptance.
